Leeds United have had their fair share of teams over the years which consisted of some of the best players to ever pull on the famous Whites jersey.

One team that stood out above the rest was the Leeds team that reached the Champions League semi-final in 2001, before eventually being defeated by Spanish side Valencia.

A Leeds fan Twitter account reminisced in the achievements of that team who reached that impressive achievement on this day in 2001.

Former Leeds United defender, Ian Harte took to Twitter to recognise the achievements of the 2001 team that reached the Champions League semi-final.

Harte will be hoping that his former side can return to the Premier League in the near future, with promotion still a possibility this season.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are currently 3rd in the Championship table and will be preparing for the play-offs, which will make or break their season in the near future.

But if the Whites can show the same sort of fight that the side of 2001 team did, then they should have no trouble at all in winning promotion back into the top-flight.

The Verdict:

What a team this was.

If you're comparing this Leeds team to today's one, then there is no doubting that Harte's side would come out on top in a game between the two sides.

It's certainly one of the best Leeds teams there have ever been.
