Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has admitted he is surprised that Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is not dropping goalkeeper Kiko Casilla for today's game against Bristol City.

The Spaniard, who has been inconsistent since joining the Whites from Real Madrid in January last year, has seriously struggled in the past few weeks, with a major error against Brentford in the week arguably his worst to date.

Therefore, the fans have been calling for Ilan Meslier to be given a chance in the first-team after he impressed against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

However, Bielsa confirmed ahead of today's game that he will be sticking with Casilla and Prutton told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he expected a change after the blunder at Griffin Park.

"I am surprised that Marcelo has not given Meslier another chance because we are not talking about errors that are debatable. We are talking about glaring mistakes from a goalkeeper and there is just no hiding place.

"It is surprising when you have got a keeper like Meslier waiting in the wings because he looks good and he deserves a chance. Casilla’s mistake at Brentford quite clearly cost his team two points but it’s been brought into sharper focus because of the general form of the team."

The verdict

From what we know of Bielsa, it's probably not a surprise that he's keeping faith in Casilla as he has shown over the past 18 months that he is fiercely loyal to his players.

If it was anyone else though, Casilla would be dropped. He has made some costly howlers in recent weeks and the one on Tuesday was embarrassingly bad.

But, that's in the past now and all the stopper can do is concentrate on today and he needs to justify Bielsa's backing by delivering a strong performance in what is a huge game this afternoon.
