Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills questioned Pontus Jansson's attitude and claimed that he has fallen out with three Whites managers since arriving in England.

The influential centre-back completed a very surprise transfer to Brentford earlier this week, in a move that infuriated many Leeds supporters.

However, Mills told Football Insider that there have been a lot of off-the-field issues with the Sweden international over the years and suggested a breakdown in the players relationship with Marcelo Bielsa is why he has moved on.

"Jansson fell out with Marcelo Bielsa, he fell out with Garry Monk and he fell out with Paul Heckingbottom, there were bust-ups because he was a difficult player to manage. He had the issue at the end of last season against Aston Villa when everyone was told to let the goal go in.

"He thinks he is a little bit better than he is. He concentrates too much on being the fans favourite rather than concentrating on his football. He needs to knuckle down and focus on what he is trying to do. Word gets around in football.

"If you are Luis Suarez, people will take a chance on you because you are brilliant. If you are average or just good, people are less likely to take the risk."

The 28-year-old claimed that Leeds sold him for FFP reasons after he completed his move to Griffin Park.

The Verdict

Anyone who has seen Jansson play will recognise his passion but that does sometimes spill over and you can understand why he would be hard to manage on occasions.

But, he is a very good player and Mills' comments about him thinking he is better than he is are quite harsh.

Jansson has proven himself to be a top player since arriving and any issues did not impact his performances, which were outstanding last season.

Ultimately though, if Bielsa has fallen out with him so much that he can't have a working relationship with him, then a sale was the only option. But it really should have been the last resort because of how important he was to the team.
