Former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has joined Watford as the club’s new technical director, West Yorkshire Sport has reported.
Salerno had been reported to be joining Serie A side Palermo but he is now set to be announced as technical director at Vicarage Road.
The 58-year-old had been controversial at Elland Road when he suspended assistant manager Steve Thompson with no reason behind the suspension of the former Bolton midfielder.
Although the Italian was said to be instrumental in persuading defender Sol Bamba to join United on a permanent basis, which he signed a two-year deal before he departed the club.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino commented on the 58-year-old during a press conference in May and confirmed that he would not be staying on as head of recruitment then and the club confirmed this last month.
Watford won promotion from the Championship last season and are preparing for life in the Premier League for the first time in nine years.
