Aston Villa midfielder Robert Snodgrass has sent a message to Leeds United fans on Twitter after returning to Elland Road last night.

Snodgrass featured for the Villains in Friday night's Sky Bet Championship encounter at Leeds with both clubs vying for promotion this season.

Although the Scotsman did not have his best game in claret and blue, his side earned a hard fought draw with Henri Lansbury's second half goal cancelling out Pontus Jansson's header.

After the game, the on-loan West Ham man applauded the Leeds fans as a recognition for the four years that he was there.

Robert Snodgrass replied to a tweet from a Leeds United fan, which said:

"Got to say quality from @robsnodgrass7 going around elland road applauding fans, should never be booed did alot for the club when he was there."

In response, Snodgrass ignored the boo boys and posted a message to Leeds fans.

He said:

"That was always the plan regardless [of] the result or me getting booed, they were amazing with me for four years."

Leeds were the club that brought the 30-year-old to England and he played just shy of 200 times for the Whites between 2008 and 2012 before moving to Norwich, Hull and West Ham.

The Verdict

Although a minority of fans booed Snodgrass, the majority of Leeds supporters will recognise that he deserves respect for his contribution to Leeds.

Snodgrass played a key part in their promotion campaign from League One.

There is plenty of mutual respect between the fans and the players and Snodgrass was right to applaud the Leeds fans.
