Leeds United are well on course to make a long-awaited promotion into the Premier League this season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites are currently sat second in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can extend their lead over their promotion-chasing rivals as the season progresses.

They'll be keen to avoid a slip-up similar to last season, as they narrowly missed out on promotion after a poor run of form saw them drop out of the automatic promotion places.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds defender Danny Mills has fired a warning to Marcelo Bielsa's side, and hinted that there won't be any easy games from now until the end of this year's league campaign.

"Sometimes teams who have nothing to fight for become very dangerous because they can relax, go out and play.

"They can play with freedom. Whereas normally when they would have played Leeds they would have sat back. That can be equally dangerous."

Mills was quick to state that promotion is in Leeds' own hands, but was wary of the threat that other teams will pose to that promotion challenge this season.

"On paper you have to say it is in Leeds’ hands. There is the ability and the potential to win the majority of those games.

"But we just saw Barnsley go to Fulham at the weekend. That is Barnsley going for it and forgetting about shutting down shop.

"They have nothing to lose. If they lose, they are bottom of the league. If they win they are bottom of the league. It is that mentality of just going for it. Sometimes it can work against you (Leeds)."

Leeds are back in action this weekend when they host Reading, who will be in a confident mood after comfortably beating Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough by three goals to nil in their last outing.

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Mills here.

There are never any easy games in the Championship, with Barnsley beating Fulham on Saturday being a classic example of this claim.

Leeds looked sharp against Bristol City at the weekend though, and if they can build on that performance, then I can't see many teams taking points off of them from now until the end of the season.

There are plenty of other dangerous sides in the Championship who have something to play for, and Leeds will know that they have to be at their best.

If they don't win promotion into the Premier League this term, then it certainly falls into the 'failed season category' in my opinion.
