There is certainly a lot of positivity around Leeds United at the moment, and the club added to that by celebrating it's 99th birthday this week.

Former Leeds United players Nigel Martyn and Michael Bridges have reached out to the club to acknowledge the special time for the club.

The pair were Leeds regulars and were part of the era where the Whites almost stunned Europe, when they were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

Those glory days seem like a lifetime away for Leeds fans, but the clubs recent success has given fans something to look forward to this season and for years to come.

Martyn made 207 appearances in total for Leeds and wished the club a happy birthday on his social media page.

"Happy 99th birthday @LUFC . Loved playing for this great club , amazing fans , great atmosphere let’s hope we’re all celebrating come May."

Bridges made 56 appearances for the Whites over a five-year-spell, scoring 19 goals in total, and he too posted on his personal Twitter account, acknowledging the anniversary.

"Thank you for allowing me to wear the shirt with pride ????????⚽️ It is a massive honour to have been involved in the clubs history. Let's hope the 100th birthday celebrations are in the Premier League. ❤"

The Verdict

Leeds fans will be delighted to see that the two former players still have a lot of love for the club.

The pair played important roles in a very successful time for the Whites and those efforts are still appreciated.

Now, the club will be concentrating on making sure their 100th birthday is in the top-flight.
