Former Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has sent a message of support to Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper after the pair agreed new contracts at Elland Road.

Club captain Cooper penned a new five-year deal whilst Dallas agreed terms on a four-year extension, becoming the third first-teamers to agree fresh terms this week, following Kalvin Phillips' earlier announcement.

And following the latest announcement, Christiansen was quick to wish the two defenders all the best, writing on Twitter: "Well deserved @LiamCooper__ and @dallas_stuart 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻"

The Spaniard managed the Whites for less than a season, taking over the reigns in June 2017 but was given the boot February after the club's promotion bid collapsed, being replaced by Paul Heckingbottom.

Both Dallas and Cooper have been ever-presents in Marcelo Bielsa's squad so far this season, with Cooper retaining his place at the heart of the defence and Dallas filling in brilliantly at right-back in place of the injured Luke Ayling.

It has been a promising start to the 2019/20 campaign for Leeds too, winning four, drawing one and losing one of their opening six matches, currently sitting in sixth place.

The verdict

This is pure class from Christiansen.

It is easy to forget just how good Leeds were during the opening months of his tenure and he clearly thoroughly enjoyed his time at Elland Road, despite how it ended.

And he is clearly a big admirer of both Dallas and Cooper, and who can blame him? Both players have been excellent so far this season and you suspect this news will come as a huge relief to fans of the club.
