Former Leeds United striker and now pundit, Noel Whelan, has taken aim at West Brom following some controversial comments from their director.

Luke Dowling made controversial comments surrounding the future of Oliver Burke, moving to criticise the Parkhead club and insisting that Burke would not be going anywhere near the club again.

However, Leeds legend Whelan is not a fan of the comments from Dowling, telling Football Insider that he believes some things need to be kept firmly indoors and under wraps.

“I think so, there are certain things that need to be kept indoors and between the four walls of the football club. I don’t see any point or what you’re gaining by that apart from looking a bit bitter and you’d expect a little bit more class.” Whelan said.

Burke has failed to settle fully back in English football since returning from a spell in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, a club he joined in a surprise big money move from Nottingham Forest just a few seasons ago.

However, he was hoping to impress at Celtic and potentially earn a permanent move to the Scottish champions, but direct Dowling's comments appear to have all but curtailed that hope for the winger now.

Whelan, who normally reserves his thoughts for matters at Elland Road, was clearly not impressed though by the whole situation, with his old school principles no doubt influencing his opinion.

The Verdict

Whelan loves to have his say these days and he's obviously got his back up about this scenario.

He is right though, and you can't help but agree that some things are better just kept in house and away from the eyes of the press.

It doesn't suit anyone this sort of behaviour from Dowling, and while he can have his thoughts on Celtic, he has to remain professional. I'm sure Burke isn't impressed either, and this could well trigger an unsettling summer for the Scot and the Baggies.
