Former Ipswich Town midfielder Matt Holland claims he has been told the Championship club’s owner Marcus Evans is lining up a replacement for current boss Paul Hurst.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the 44-year-old former footballer issued the comments after a sixth defeat of the season for the club who currently sit rock-bottom of the Championship.

Hurst, who guided Shrewsbury to a League One play-off final last season replaced Mick McCarthy who was sacked at the end of last year.

Ipswich have only won once this season and look devoid of confidence despite picking up their first win of the season just before the international break.

They travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United this evening in what looks to be yet another daunting fixture.

This weekend Hurst's side head to The Den to take on fellow strugglers Millwall in what is a six-pointer already at this early stage of the season.

And after the recent run of results, Holland spoke on the radio platform to reveal the claims that the club is looking at a replacement for Hurst.

“I have heard that Marcus Evans has spoken to other managers,” he said. “There’s a possibility something might change, but I don’t know whether that will happen or not.

"That was a couple of weeks ago I heard that, but that will be interesting to see.”

The Verdict

It is an absolute mess at Portman Road at present.

Despite their lack of progress under Mick McCarthy, they certainly had stability and organisation; now it seems everything has gone downhill.

The club sit bottom of the table, and Paul Hurst's job remains in the balance after one win in 13 matches.

These are dark days at Ipswich and with Matt Holland coming out and claiming that the owner is looking to replace the manager after such a short space of time makes the club seem even more fractured.

It is not a good time to be a Town supporter, and things look worst than first feared, and the situation does not look like improving any time soon.
