Declan John is hoping that his experience playing for Glasgow Rangers will help him adapt to life with Sunderland.

The Swansea City man arrived at the Stadium Of Light on transfer deadline day after falling out of favour with the Championship.

John will be hoping to make a big impression on the Black Cats, but speaking to the press he's confident that his time north of the border will mean he's suitably prepared.

As quoted by Chronicle Live, John said: “I spoke to a couple of the boys down in Swansea beforehand, and then spoke to the gaffer.

“People just kept telling me how big the club is and how big the fanbase is.

“I’ve played at some pretty big clubs before so I feel I’ve got that experience in me.

“I was at Rangers just over two years ago now, and now moving here I think that helps me because I can understand the expectations and what fans want from us. They want you to win every game, that’s the type of place I know I’m coming in to.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting in for the games now."

The verdict

Declan John could be a very shrewd addition for Sunderland.

The 24-year-old has a good amount of experience in the EFL and that could be crucial to the Black Cats' hopes of securing promotion.

Expectations are high at the Stadium Of Light but given his time with Rangers, John is more than used to handling the pressure of performing in from of expectant supporters.

If he can channel that into his time with Sunderland then he's likely to be a success.
