Paul Robinson has praised West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone as he played his part in their 2-1 win at Reading last night.

After a tough six weeks or so, Albion have really improved in February, winning three in a row and moving six points clear at the top of the Championship as a result.

And, whilst it has been a real team effort, the former England number one told Football Insider that he has been impressed with Johnstone and suggested it has been the 26-year-old's best campaign.

"He’s definitely having a good season there, his performances have been very, very good, he’s kept a lot of clean sheets this year. He’s playing in a team that are playing that well. For someone like him, he’s been ever-present and I think this is probably his best season as a goalkeeper, from the outside looking in.

"Watching him progress in the way that he has done, I probably wouldn’t be too far off saying, and he would probably say the same, this is his best season so far in his career."

Johnstone is sure to start in goal this weekend when the Baggies host Nottingham Forest in what is a big game for both sides.

The verdict

Some fans have been critical of Johnstone this season but he is a very good player at this level and showed that again last night.

Whether it has actually been his best year is debatable, because he has made some mistakes, however Albion certainly have a good keeper and he will be key to their promotion push.

The challenge will be to maintain his recent form moving forward, starting with Saturday's huge fixture against Forest.
