Darren Bent has backed new Portsmouth signing Marcus Harness to continue to make a big impression on the south coast after he scored in their League Cup win at QPR last night.

The 23-year-old was brought to the club from fellow League One side Burton this summer and the winger had big boots to fill after Jamal Lowe left for Wigan.

However, he has made a bright start with Pompey, grabbing his first goal as they lost to Sunderland earlier this month, whilst he starred at Loftus Road.

And, former England international Bent, who played with Harness for the Brewers, told EFL on Quest just what a talent he is.

"I was with him at Burton and spent some time with him. I watched him really grow as a player, the natural ability was there, it was just about nurturing it. He was brilliant for Burton last season. It is a great signing for Pompey."

Harness is sure to be involved as Kenny Jackett's side travel to Blackpool this weekend.

The Verdict

There has been a lot of change at Portsmouth over the past few months and Harness looks as though he will be a very good addition to the squad.

Bent is clearly a very big fan of the player and for someone with his pedigree to praise Harness like that should excite the fans.

It's now down to the player to build on this positive start and to establish himself as an integral member of the team as they look to win promotion back to the Championship.
