Former EFL goalkeeper weighs in on current West Brom situation

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland says that West Brom hiring Slavisa Jokanovic would be a decent short term option.

The shot-stopper was speaking on EFL Matters on Sky Sports Football (14/03, 19:00) when he made the comments on potential replacements for Darren Moore at the Hawthorns.

“Yes, he [Jokanovic] has got promotion experience,” he said.

“So if you need somebody to come in now with not long to go, then he would be right up there.”

Moore was sacked last Saturday after drawing 1-1 with Ipswich Town at the Hawthorns, despite the Baggies sitting in fourth place in the Championship.

Jimmy Shan has taken over first-team matters for the time being and picked up a 3-0 win against Swansea in his first match in charge.

Chris Brunt, Mason Holgate and Jay Rodriguez scored the goals on Wednesday night and will get another chance this weekend against Brentford.

The verdict

Kirkland is spot on here.

Jokanovic is the perfect option if West Brom’s intentions are to get promoted at all costs this season as seems to be the case.

Personally, I feel the Baggies would be better of targeting a more long-term option such as Alex Neil.
