Rufus is facing fraud charges

Voted the Addicks’ greatest ever defender in 2005, Rufus is rumoured to have debts of more than £18 million and is alleged to have misappropriated funds trusted to him by nearly 100 investors.

Plus a £5m investment given to Rufus by the Kingsway international Christian Centre has gone missing and the Church Commissioners are now investigating.

The Daily Mail claim the 40-year-old, a born again Christian, owes money to former Chelsea defender Paul Elliott, who is a close family friend who helped Rufus when he suffered the same career-ending injury as him.

Two years ago, Elliott resigned from his roles with The Football Association and at Kick it Out after a reported discriminatory abusive comments in text messages between himself and Rufus.

Since then Elliott is regaining footballing roles after libel action brought by Rufus were dismissed.

Rufus himself has missed a number of court hearings.
