Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, Neil Redfearn has admitted that he believes Leeds United are the best footballing side in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds have enjoyed an excellent start to life under Thomas Christiansen, with the Whites picking up 20 points from a possible 33 at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

Christiansen has brought an exciting brand of attacking football to Leeds, which has led to many at Elland Road believing that the club could end their long wait for a Premier League return.

Despite sitting fifth in the table heading into this week’s international break, the mood in West Yorkshire is slowly beginning to sour, with Christiansen suffering his first run of defeats in the Championship.

Millwall, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday have all got the better of Leeds in recent weeks, with Christiansen’s side unable to handle the physical approach of their opposition.

Leeds, who have suffered three defeats in their last four, welcome Reading to Elland Road following the international break, and Redfearn was confident that the Whites could bounce back if the Royals try to match their fluent style of play.

The former Leeds and Rotherham United boss said: “With Reading coming, they couldn’t have had a better way to bounce back.

“If it’s a football game, then for me, there is no contest because I think Leeds are as good as you are going to get at this level."

The Verdict

Redfearn’s comments are a surprise, particularly ahead of Leeds’ clash with Reading, who last season, along with Fulham, played some of the Championship’s most attractive football.

Christiansen has done an excellent job in transforming Leeds’ style, and whilst they have struggled in games against the likes of Millwall and Cardiff, they should not move away from their possession-based game.

The fixture against Reading will see two footballing sides meet, which should make for an interesting clash.
