Rumoured Derby County transfer target Efe Ambrose has confirmed that he has joined the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season, after speaking to Score Nigeria.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since he triggered a clause in his contact allowing him to leave Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in January, where he made over 80 appearances for the Scottish side following his arrival from Celtic in 2017.

But the former Celtic man, who has been training with Frank Lampard's Derby County in recent weeks, has confirmed that he has joined the Rams on a short-term deal until the end of the season, and has also been pictured in a Derby shirt ahead of official club confirmation of the signing.

Speaking to Score Nigeria, Ambrose said: "I signed a short term deal with Derby County that runs till the summer - I am delighted to join this ambitious club. I am honoured and it is a privilege to play under a legend like Frank Lampard."

The Rams remain well in the hunt for promotion via the play-offs, as they prepare to travel to the division's bottom side Ipswich Town on Wednesday night - Lampard's men currently occupy the final play-off spot, after losing just one of their last six league outings.

The Verdict

It certainly looks as if the Rams have indeed signed Ambrose on a short-term deal, and he could prove to be a really smart addition by Lampard.

I don't think anybody expects him to start straight away, as Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori have been magnificent all season, but if he trains well, then who knows what may happen?

If not, then he'd be a tremendous back-up option to have - he has played in the Champions League, and has really impressed in Scotland, he now deserves a chance to shine in England.
