The two strikers have crossed both on more than one occasion with the first time they played together at Coventry City, before later meeting up when Bellamy returned to Cardiff on loan from Manchester City to partner Bothroyd.

The 33-year-old English striker who is currently playing in Japan for Junilo Iwata made 130 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring 45 goals in three years at the club.

Speaking out about his opinion on why Bellamy should be boss at the club, Bothroyd said to BBC Sport: "The managers job at Cardiff would be a great first job for him.

"He's worked with great managers and trained with great clubs over the years. I'm sure he's taken a lot of things on board".

Bellamy now 35, has been taking his coaching badges with the Welsh FA since retiring from football at Cardiff in 2014, from what could only be called an illustrious career.

Russel Slade, who is currently the manager at Cardiff has lost the support of the fans around him since joining from Leyton Orient in October and could be set to depart in the summer.

On the current performances of Cardiff, Bothroyd added; "no fan is going to want to pay money to watch that kind of football. They've played too many long balls. The fans have been used to exciting football". Bothroyd is the one to know how the fans like the football after winning promotion with the side.

"The manager obviously implements his style of play on the team. Nothing against Russell Slade but I don't think he's improved the team at all since he took over". He added when questioned about the under fire boss.

Slade has been criticised and booed by fans that are unhappy with the performances of a team that has a lot of technical ability, yet is prohibited from using it.

Former Bluebird Bothroyd is confident that is Bellamy returns to Cardiff to lead the club, fans would see the return of attractive football return to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Referring to Bellamy, Bothroyd said; "even as a player he was first to have a go at people in training. He wanted to see the team pass the ball more and create more chances.

"He would implement a style of football he'd enjoy, exciting football. I've got respect for him. He's one of the most professional players I've played with".

Bellamy is a hero to Cardiff fans after starring for the Welsh side making over 90

appearances for the side, with two seasons in the Premier League.
