Former Bristol City striker Aaron Wilbraham spoke about Lee Johnson in a recent episode of Undr The Cosh podcast, and admitted that he and the 38-year-old 'clashed a few times' when he was at the club.

Wilbraham scored 34 goals in 124 appearances for Bristol City between 2014 and 2017 before leaving for Bolton Wanderers. Now aged 40, Wilbraham is playing in League One with Rochdale United.

During a recent episode of the Undr The Cosh podcast, Wilbraham spoke about his lengthy career in the game and opened up about his time at Ashton Gate, admitting that he and manager Lee Johnson clashed on occasions, recalling one story involving Joe Bryan.

"We clashed a few times over stupid little things," said Wilbraham, before he told a story of how Johnson had accused Wilbraham of 'touting up' his young players.

"My agent wanted to have a chat with Joe Bryan. I said to Will (the agent), don't do that the day before a game, managers don't like that. He said alright but said to ask Joe if he was interested.

"I wasn't touting him up, I'm not getting anything if he wants to have a chat with my agent. We played Cardiff away and my agent was at the game and said he'd have a chat with Joe after.

"We were getting on the bus after the game and my agent walked up to Joe and had a five-minute chat. We get back to the training ground and Johnson said he wants a word. He's fuming because we've been beaten.

"He told me the club pays me a lot of money to play football, not to tout our young lads to agents."

Wilbraham stated after that he believes Johnson is a top coach and that he liked the 38-year-old despite this coming together.

Steve Cotterill initially brought Wilbraham to Bristol City in 2014 before departing in January 2016, a month before Johnson took over.

Johnson is now the longest-serving manager in the Championship and will oversee his 200th game in charge of the Robins this season - Wilbraham played one full season under Johnson before leaving in 2017.

The verdict

Robins fans quickly grew to Wilbraham during his time at the club. His initial signing raised a few eyebrows because of his age but proved those doubters wrong, and still playing today at 40-years-old.

Johnson is a top manager and a legend at Bristol City. His side went into this international break in 6th and will resume their Championship campaign with the visit of Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
