Rudy Gestede has seemingly found himself a new club, nearly four months after he was released by Middlesbrough.

According to Australian reporter Ray Gatt, the giant striker is set to secure a move overseas to Melbourne Victory, who play in the Hyundai A-League.

Gestede was profilic for Blackburn Rovers after joining them permanently in 2013, scoring 32 goals in 60 league games.

That form secured him a move to Premier League outfit Aston Villa, but it's been a struggle for him to hit the heights of his run at Ewood Park, as he's failed to hit the back of the net regularly and also struggled with injuries.

His impending move down will also see him link up with another former Rovers alumni and a name which will make fans shudder - Steve Kean.

Kean spent nearly two maligned years in charge at the Lancashire club, and was appointed as the Victory assistant manager this past week.

The Verdict

A move to Australia is the perfect chance for Gestede to find his scoring boots again.

Football League luminaries such as Adam Le Fondre and Andy Keogh have managed to rediscover their form in the very same league in recent years, so there's no reason why the 32-year-old Benin international can't either.

Kean never managed Gestede when they were both at Rovers, their times at the club didn't overlap one another, but there's no doubting his contacts are the ones that are set to bring the towering hitman to the south east of Australia.

With Jacob Butterfield and Callum McManaman also recently signing for Victory, there could be many fans of Football League clubs with a vested interest in Australian football going forward.
