Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed he'd love to play for Celtic, as he remains without a club since leaving Villa Park in the summer.

The 31-year old has so far been a one-club man, joining Villa in 2005 and enjoying just two loan spells away during his tenure. Aside from two games for Watford and eight for Sheffield Wednesday, all his football has been in Villa colours.

He played 391 senior games for the side, registering 86 goals before his release, but he's got one eye on the future, perhaps a little tongue in cheek though.

After not only taking part, but also scoring in Stilian Petrov's Match for Cancer on Saturday, he revealed how much the lure of Celtic Park appealed to him as a player.

"I think every player if they had the chance to play for Celtic would take it,” he told the Herald. "Can you imagine playing in front of 60,000 people inside this place. I told one of the lads I'd get sent off in the first minute due to adrenalin and sheer excitement."

When pressed on the subject, he revealed he hadn't ruled out a move to Scotland and that his desire was to keep on playing, somewhere.

"You can never rule anything out - can you? I will try and speak to Brendan Rodgers and we will see what happens! At the moment I am considering my options. I want to do what is best for me and my family. I have young kids and for me to move to another place and another country is a big decision for me. I definitely want to play on and I wouldn't rule anything out."

The Verdict

He might have to rule this one out, I can't see Brendan Rogers offering Agbonlahor a contract. His last two seasons at Villa Park showed evidence of serious decline.

If he wants to keep on playing I suspect a League One side might benefit from his services. It doesn't sound as though an America or China payday is viable with his family situation, making his options far fewer in number.
