Former Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd is to complete a move to League One outfit Gillingham, Fox News have confirmed.
The Australian-born utility man, who has been capped three times at international level completes a move to the Gills having opted out of his contract with hometown club Perth Glory two months ago.
Herd is set for a medical in the coming hours and pending no underlying problems, he will sign a one-year-deal with Justin Edinburgh’s side.
The move for the former Villa man seems initiated following Jamie O’Hara’s departure from the club last week, which had left the Gills in short supply in the middle-of-the-park.
Gillingham are somewhat plodding along in this season’s League One campaign and after eleven games, they sit 12th in the table with fifteen points.
A disappointing defeat to League One new-boys AFC Wimbledon highlighted the need for improvements, and supporters will hope that Herd adds a bit of quality to a side that needs to pick things back up.
