Former Aston Villa man gives his honest verdict on 28-year-old’s summer departure

According to The Daily Record, former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has revealed that he felt that Scott Sinclair did the right thing in leaving the club last summer.

Scott Sinclair left Aston Villa to join Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and he has enjoyed a new lease of life north of the border.

Hendrie, who made over 250 Premier League appearances for the Villains, said that Sinclair was caught up in a misfiring and negative Villa side and he needed to escape for the sake of his own career.

With 18 goals in 39 appearances for Celtic, Sinclair has proven to be a shrewd piece of business for them.

Lee Hendrie – who has one cap for England – is claiming that Sinclair’s good form should put him back in the frame for a call-up to the England squad.

However, the underlying message from Hendrie is that Sinclair’s career was being hampered by Aston Villa being on a “downward spiral”.

Aston Villa fans – do you agree with Hendrie or not? Was Sinclair being held back? Let us know in the comments below…
