Ligue 1 clubs are battling to secure Wahbi Khazri’s service this summer, with Sunderland set to receive £6m from any potential deal.

According to the Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog (10/05), Khazri has caught the eye of Lyon and Marseille, after an impressive loan spell with Rennes.

That duo are battling to secure Khazri’s service, with the Sunderland outcast likely to demand a £6m transfer-fee over the summer.

Sunderland, who will be playing League One football next season, moved to sign Khazri in January 2016, but the midfielder failed to make an impact at the Stadium of Light, managing just three goals in 42 appearances.

A loan move away from Sunderland last summer has helped the 27-year-old rediscover something like his best, with Khazri scoring 11 goals whilst on-loan with Rennes.

That form has led to Lyon and Marseille showing an interest, with a potential permanent transfer to France set to line Sunderland’s pockets with £6m.

Sunderland are currently preparing for life in League One, after back-to-back relegations in the last two years.

Chris Coleman has since departed the Stadium of Light, which has coincided with an agreement for Sunderland Football Club to be sold.

The Verdict

A fee of £6m for Khazri would be great business for Sunderland, particularly following their relegation to League One.

Money will be tight at the Stadium of Light following two relegations in two years, which means a healthy transfer-fee for a player that has flopped like Khazri will be massive for the club.
