Norwich City have announced the winger Matt Jarvis has left the club to join League One side Walsall on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Norwich confirmed the news on their official club website, with the move set to be completed subject to confirmation from the relevant football authorities.

Jarvis has endured a torrid time with injuries, and has recently returned to action from a long-term knee injury after almost two seasons on the sidelines.

He has only made 21 appearances in total for the Canaries and will be hoping that the move can find him some much-needed game time.

Jarvis last featured in a Norwich shirt when he was part of the squad for the under 23's side against VFL Wolfsburg  in December.

But it will come as no surprise to see Jarvis heading out on loan with Norwich flying high in the Championship heading into 2019, and he isn't anywhere near the first-team squad this season.

Daniel Farke's side are currently 2nd in the table and will be hoping they can win promotion to the Premier League at the end of this year's campaign.

Jarvis will be keen to make a good impression out on loan, in the hope of staking a claim for a starting spot in the Norwich squad next season.

The Verdict:

His choice of destination is a shock.

I would have thought that Jarvis could still do a good job in the Championship, so this is a huge coup for Walsall.

But there was no chance he was getting anywhere near the starting XI for Norwich this season, so it's good to see him willing to take the step down a division to find regular game time.
