According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United will rekindle their interest in former star Andros Townsend in the summer.

They will revisit the deal regardless of whether they go up or stay in the Championship.

Townsend was considered to be Rafa Benitez's top January target but Newcastle and Crystal Palace failed to agree a loan deal to take the occasional England international back to St James' Park.

The 25-year-old left Newcastle in the summer to join Crystal Palace but was understood to be keen on a return to Tyneside, where he impressed in the latter half of last season despite Newcastle's relegation.

Townsend is a pacey and direct winger with a killer left boot but he can be a bit one dimensional at times.

He cannot use his right foot which makes him quite predictable and he blows hot and cold, meaning you don't know whether he will be exceptional or useless on any given day.

Here are 2 other wingers that Benitez could target in the summer.

Ollie Burke

Ollie Burke was so impressive at Nottingham Forest that he earned a multi-million pound move to German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

However, the Scottish winger has managed just one league start for the title chasing German side.

Perhaps a move back to England could be on the cards and, after 4 goals in 5 Championship games earlier this season, Newcastle should be keen to take the 19-year-old at St James' Park.

Tom Ince

If Derby fail to get promoted and Newcastle do go up, they should definitely look to poach Tom Ince from Steve McClaren's side.

Ince provides a similar threat to Townsend; a left-footed winger who likes cutting in from the right and providing goals.

The 25-year-old has 11 goals in 33 appearances for the Rams this season and needs to be stepping up to play top flight football at this stage of his career.
