Derby County boss Gary Rowett is still looking to add to his squad before the transfer deadline, but is being patient with his dealings in order to get the right players in.
The Rams kick off their 2017/18 campaign with a trip to Sunderland on Friday night, and fans are hoping for at least one more arrival before then.
Derby need a winger, if not a couple of wingers, to come through the door this month as there is not a whole lot of creativity or talent in that department.
Youngster Mason Bennett has emerged as an established first team squad member this pre-season, however the 21-year-old, along with Andreas Weimann and Johnny Russell, are not enough for Gary Rowett’s side.
Nick Blackman and Ikechi Anya are mainly squad players at this moment in time, but Anya’s versatility could mean he’s deployed in another position.
Despite having a number of options out wide, Rowett is expected to bring in a wide player this summer, following the departure of star man Tom Ince.
Along with several others, one player Derby have been rumoured to be interested in is Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent.
Kent spent last season on loan with Championship outfit Barnsley, and impressed during his time with the Tykes, including his good performance in a 2-0 win over Nigel Pearson’s Derby side early on in the season in which Kent notably stood out.
The 20-year-old played in 44 of Barnsley’s league matches last season, starting 38.
He contributed 3 goals as Barnsley comfortably avoided a relegation battle, picking up wins over the likes of Leeds, Derby, Norwich and Aston Villa throughout the season.
Kent has made just one appearance for parent club Liverpool, who have spent big money on winger Mo Salah this summer, so another loan opportunity may be his best option this season, and with Derby in the market for a talented wide man, Kent could be a decent signing to add to Gary Rowett’s Rams squad.
