Wolves are set to be very active in the summer transfer window as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

They are certainly well placed to make a real splash, too, with them having a talented squad and manager as well as plenty of resources to make vast improvements.

The rumours are underway, then, and according to FootballFanCast, Bacary Sagna is wanted by both the Midlands club and their rivals Aston Villa with him set to be a free agent this summer after a spell in Serie A in Italy.

An experienced player at the very highest level, Sagna would bring Premier League knowhow.

Is he, though, the defender that Wolves really need to enhance their chances of survival in the top flight?

We're not so sure here at Football League World and so, with that in mind, here are three other defenders that the club should perhaps look at signing instead...

Cedric Soares is too good for the Championship and so if Southampton go down, there will surely be interest in him.

If Wolves are looking for a right-sided player to rival Matt Doherty then Soares would be a far better arrival than Sagna.

He's got more energy, knows the league well and is a better player at this point in time - plus, he is Portuguese and that would help too.

Potentially, Wolves might want a player that can play both as a defender out on the sides on in the middle and Craig Dawson would fill that role nicely.

He may not bomb on as much as Sagna would but he's in his prime and is more than good enough to stay in the Premier League.

It would hurt West Brom fans, but Wolves supporters might not care too much about that.

Fredericks is currently out of contract in the summer as Fulham look to assure him of Premier League football next season.

If they cannot, though, they are in risk of seeing the likes of the flying right-back go and he'd certainly strengthen Wolves' side.

He'd surely be of more use to the club than Sagna in 2018/19 with all due respect.
