Despite a disappointing opening day defeat to Queens Park Rangers, Jaap Stam will be hoping that he can go one step further and lead Reading back to the Premier League.

Although Reading haven't been overly busy in the transfer market, there has been the notable arrivals of Modou Barrow from Swansea, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Wolves and Pelle Clement from Ajax.

Jaap Stam will surely still be looking to add another striker before the transfer window closes.

However, Jaap Stam's revealing interview stated that Reading needed to be inventive with the signings they make this summer which would suggest that the Berkshire club won't be going down the usual avenues of recruitment for a Championship side.

In the search for a striker, already this summer, Reading have been linked with moves for Nelson Oliviera from Norwich City and also Nahki Wells from Huddersfield Town.

However, with the move for Nelson Oliviera falling through and the news that Nahki Wells will need minor ankle surgery before any potential move, Stam may have to look elsewhere.

One player who may interest Jaap Stam and Reading is Heracles Almelo's £2.13m-rated striker Samuel Armenteros, the Swedish striker was one of the standout performers in the Eredivisie last season.

Since returning to Heracles Almelo from Azerbaijani side Qarabag, Armenteros has been in prolific form after scoring nineteen goals in the Eredivisie.

However, despite a successful season as an integral component of John Stegeman's side, the 27-year-old Swedish international may fancy a change of scenery and a move to England to ply his trade.

Whilst Samuel Armenteros is clearly not Jaap Stam's first choice, the Swedish striker could leave this summer and he could be the inventive signing that Stam has been alluding to.

Reading fans, would you be happy to see Samuel Armenteros join your side? Is he the calibre of signing that Reading needs to be making? Do you think he would be an improvement on Reading's current striking options? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
