Martin O’Neill’s rebuilding job at the City Ground has ten days left to be completed with the end of the January transfer window edging ever closer.

The new Nottingham Forest manager lost his first game at the helm last weekend, falling to a narrow home defeat against Bristol City.

O’Neill will be on the lookout for new additions to galvanise his side during the second half of the season to sustain a prolonged push at getting in, and staying into the Championship play-offs.

One player who has been reported to be on the radar of the East Midlands outfit is Scunthorpe midfielder Funso Ojo.

Scunthorpe Live via the Grimsby Telegraph, reported that Forest, as well as near rivals Derby County, are taking a shine to the 21-year-old who has impressed for the Iron this season.

Defensively minded, Ojo could be a perfect acquisition to the City Ground should O’Neill wish to push through a deal for the impressive young man.

But is it the right move? Here are THREE midfielders Forest and O’Neil should be targeting instead.

Henri Lansbury

The former Nottingham Forest man isn’t having the best of times at Aston Villa since his move from the City Ground.

The 28-year-old has managed just 29 appearances in three years with the Villans, and could well be pushing for a move away if game time under Dean Smith does not see the former Arsenal man as key to his plans for the rest of the season.

Lansbury is a dependable hand in the Championship and O’Neill could well be wanting to get a man he can rely on when called upon.

It could well a move for the club, and the player look to get dome and one that could certainly pay dividends come the end of the season.

John Swift

If O’Neill is certain on a midfield recruit, then it should be one of attacking prowess as opposed to a player more acclimatised to the more defensive role on a pitch.

Forest have plenty of options in midfield, especially from a defensive point of view.

Swift is getting to play to the peak of his powers under new boss Jose Gomez, and he could be a shrewd signing for Forest if they want to add a little more panache to their attacking line.

Will Vaulks

The 25-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder and could be the workhorse that this current Forest team desperately needs.

Before the turn of the year, the Rotherham United midfielder was reportedly on Norwich’s wish list without anything coming to fruition.

O’Neill should take advantage of the lack of transfer activity from the Norfolk side and move to land the Millers’ maestro to be able to dominate both boxes and bring a different dimension to the how Forest want to play.
