Jerry Mbakogu remains a Leeds United transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window, with fresh reports emerging this week, linking the striker with a move to Elland Road.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have claimed that a deal is lined up for Mbakogu in the summer, with Carpi valuing the Nigerian forward at £4m.

So far this season, the 25-year-old has managed to score just eight goals across all competitions, including six in Serie B.

Leeds’ supporters are bound to be underwhelmed by reports still linking them with Mbakogu, who has struggled, like a lot of Leeds’ current forwards, for goals over the last 12 months.

The Elland Road faithful have been left frustrated by this season’s effort in the Championship, with the expectancy amongst supporters that Leeds will target domestic players to bolster their squad in the summer.

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE other strikers Leeds should take a look at instead of Mbakogu…

McBurnie worked with Paul Heckingbottom during his time at Barnsley, and is regarded as one of English football’s most exciting young forwards.

The 21-year-old has scored plenty of goals for Barnsley during the second-half of the season, despite featuring in a side fighting against relegation in the Championship.

Elland Road could be the perfect place for McBurnie to kick on.

Leeds could well look to the lower leagues for a new focal point this season, with Marriott the standout option.

The Peterborough forward has been terrific this season and is sure to attract interest from the Championship in the summer.

If Leeds are considering £4m for a striker with Mbakogu’s record, they should pay whatever Peterborough want for Marriott.

If Leeds want experience, they should move for Grabban.

Grabban has been terrific on-loan in the Championship this season, impressing for both Sunderland and Aston Villa.

If the 30-year-old is available again next season, Leeds should be making a move.
