The Mirror reported earlier this week that Manchester United are keen on signing George Hirst from Sheffield Wednesday with the youngster's contract up at the end of the campaign.

The young forward looks to have a bright future ahead of him and there can be no doubt that whoever signs him, if he leaves the Owls, will be getting an exciting prospect.

With the Red Devils looking the favourites, then, we asked our regular Leeds fans their thoughts about it given their previous links with the player. Here's what was said:

Steve, 38, Harrogate

Wednesday must be gutted!

The Owls only have themselves to blame really, though, because I think they should have chucked all they could at the striker to keep him.

The way they've played he'd have probably helped them out but it looks as though he's off. I'd certainly take him at my club.

Mark, 53, Wakefield

Forget Manchester Utd, he'd be guaranteed minutes at Leeds!

I'm always concerned when good young players go to clubs like United because they are far from guaranteed game time and don't always kick-on.

I don't think Jose Mourinho is particularly great for kids, either, and so I think he should have a rethink and get some more senior game time.

Karen, 31, Kendal

I'd love us to make a move but I think we've missed the boat.

Unfortunately once a team like Man Utd get involved it's hard to persuade a young kid though I'd think he'd be better off staying at Wednesday or coming to our club.

Shockingly, though, we've let this one go!

Bruno, 26, Leeds

Well I'm not that disappointed.

One good thing I'll say about this season is that our young players have done well and so hopefully we won't regret not getting Hirst.

I have issues with the way he's acted at Wednesday, too, so I'm not that worried if he goes elsewhere - shame it's probably to that lot though.
