Jack Ross has done a wonderful job since arriving at the Stadium of Light in the summer and has made Sunderland exciting to watch again.

They currently sit third in the League One table with 26 matches played, one point behind Luton Town who occupy second place but with a game in hand over the Hatters.

With the January transfer window now in full flow, it signals the chance for those in the League One promotion race to steal a march on each other, but for Sunderland, it could ruin their season.

Star-striker Josh Maja has rejected the chance to extend his contract at the North East club so a move away could well be on the cards.

It is important that the Black Cats are not held to ransom so looking for replacements makes perfect sense.

The most recent forward linked with a move is Birmingham City's Greg Stewart and it could be a match made in heaven.

Stewart was signed by the Blues from Dundee United in 2016 but has failed to kick-on at St Andrew's.

A spell north of the border with Kilmarnock this season, however, has breathed new life into the forward, scoring eight goals and assisting seven in 16 appearances.

Now back with the Blues, Sunderland would be wise to follow through and try to land the striker, especially with how well Ross has done with his Scottish compatriots at Sunderland this season.

Chris Maguire, Dylan McGeouch, Donald Love and Jon McLaughlin have all shone this season and there is a real chance that Ross could do the same with Stewart.
