As the club prepares for the second-half of the campaign, Leeds United have recently been linked with a move to sign Besiktas winger Jeremain Lens.

The Whites reportedly watched the 31-year old wide-man net a brace in Besiktas’ 3-2 Europa League victory over Sarsporg, ahead of a potential January move.

Marcelo Bielsa will be looking to strengthen his side ahead of United’s promotion push, with his side currently sitting second in the Championship, four points clear of the playoff places.

Is Lens the right man for Leeds though? Another player that Leeds have been linked with is Spanish winger Ibai Gomez, and we at FLW reckon he’d be a much better addition at Elland Road.

The winger has been influential in what has been a very good season for Deportivo Alaves, netting three goals and producing three assists for the La Liga side this term.

Here, we take a look at three reasons why he’d be a much better signing than Jeremain Lens...

One factor that could be a pull, is that Bielsa knows how to get the best out of Gomez.

The Argentinian managed Gomez at Athletic Bilbao, where the latter was influential in Bilbao’s magnificent Europa League campaign in 2012.

Bielsa’s exceptional man-management has got the best out of the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kemar Roofe this term, and signing a player he knows like the back of his hands could work wonders for Leeds.

From a financial perspective, the signing of Gomez would make much more sense.

He is out of contract at Alavés at the end of this season, so the Spanish club may look to sell him for a fee in January rather than running the risk of letting him leave on a free in the summer.

With the likes of Leicester City reportedly circling around him, it would be a hard task to convince him to join, but with his relationship with Bielsa, who knows what could happen?

Of course, age isn’t everything in football nowdays, but in Gomez, Leeds would have a younger, and perhaps more long-term option than they would in Lens.

Gomez is two years younger than the Dutchman, as well as possessing the same traits as Lens does.

He has pace, power, skill, and the ability to pick out a killer pass with his tremendous vision, making him a huge potential asset for Bielsa.
