Whilst other teams continue to find their feet in the race for automatic promotion, Barnsley just keep on plugging away in their pursuit of promotion from League One this season.

Daniel Stendel has done a magnificent job in what is his debut season managing in England, and has done exceptionally well to keep his Barnsley side level-headed as we approach the final run-in.

The Tykes have lost just one of their last 22 league games, with a 4-2 thumping over Fleetwood Town at Oakwell the latest victory in an impressive run of form.

The Yorkshire club are incredibly solid to break down, they have a midfield that have every ingredient you need to succeed in League One, and a back-line that currently boast the best defensive record in the league, having conceded just 35 goals in 42 league games this term.

Liam Lindsay has been beneficial in keeping that tally as low as possible - the Scotsman endured a shaky season last time out, but has come into his own next to Ethan Pinnock this term.

The 23-year old has made 43 appearances for the Tykes this season, and has been a mainstay in a team that very rarely concede goals. At 23, Lindsay is proving himself to be a very talented player with a big future ahead of him.

The worry for Barnsley would be that, if they do not go up this season, then a host of high-profile clubs are going to be sniffing around him in the summer, like they already have been doing.

Reports have claimed that Leeds United, Aston Villa and Scottish champions Celtic are interested in landing the highly-rated centre-half, who is reportedly valued at around £5million by Barnsley.

So what should the Tykes do? Should they cash in on the defender and risk trying to find somebody else who is just as good? Or, do they put out a huge statement of intent and keep Lindsay on their books for yet another season?

Most would be urging the club to do the latter, and you cannot blame them. Lindsay is a centre-half who can play on either half, he is a commanding leader at a relatively young age, and Barnsley must ensure that they keep him at Oakwell beyond this campaign.
