A number of names have been linked with a move to Leeds United following Chris Wood’s £15m move to Burnley earlier this week, as Thomas Christiansen continues to search for a striking replacement.

Jay-Roy Grot looks set to complete a move to Leeds at some point in the near future, but Christiansen is looking to add two strikers to his squad, with Rudy Gestede another who the Whites have made an approach for.

Here at FLW, we believe that Wood’s replacement could already be at Elland Road, with Kemar Roofe excelling as a central striker in Tuesday’s 5-1 victory over Newport County, with the forward scoring a hat-trick.

Since arriving at Leeds ahead of last season, Roofe has not had a proper opportunity as a central striker, due to Wood’s exceptional form, with the 24-year-old playing predominantly as a winger.

However, when given the opportunity to play centrally, Roofe has thrived, non more so than in the victory over Newport.

Despite not having the physical presence of Wood, or a player similar to the New Zealand international, Leeds’ recent switch in tactics, where a lot of play goes through midfield, could suit Roofe’s style as a lone striker.

In Leeds’ recent victory over Sunderland, Caleb Ekuban, then Roofe, were played as the focal point of attack, with both stretching the play and benefitting from the creativity of Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski in an attacking trio behind.

Even with Grot arriving, Leeds look light in the goalscoring department and Christiansen will want another striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, Roofe should be given a permanent opportunity to play as a central striker, to see if he can replicate his goalscoring form from the Carabao Cup, in the Sky Bet Championship.
