A run of one win in five games has seen Sheffield United just about cling on to a play-off place ahead of a very busy December.

Given their struggles, many fans will have an eye on the winter window coming up and they will hope a few additions can spark the side back into life.

And, one big name they have been linked with is Jermain Defoe.

However, we don't think that the Bournemouth striker is the man to solve Chris Wilder's problem, with Middlesbrough's Martin Braithwaite the sort of forward the Blades need.

Firstly, Sheffield United have been toothless in recent games, failing to score in three of their last five.

So, whilst Defoe, who is a clinical finisher, would in theory take any chances the side get, the reality is the issue has been creating them.

Against Sheffield Wednesday they managed little aside from a penalty and they lacked that imagination in the final third against Leeds last time out too.

Therefore, a player like Braithwaite, who is capable of dropping between the lines, finding space and running at players is more what they need.

He has not flourished under Tony Pulis at Boro but that's because the former West Brom manager is naturally defensive, which limits the impact players like Braithwaite can have.

At Bramall Lane, it would be a different story entirely and his movement, intelligence and creativity would seriously improve the side.

Wilder certainly needs something in January but Defoe would face the same problems that Billy Sharp is facing now.

The issue is about making chances and the Danish international, who may be available for a transfer, is the one to sharpen up the Blades.
