Leeds United are bombarding their way up the Championship table and after a fantastic 4-1 away win at Preston North End this weekend, Garry Monk's team are showing no sign of slowing up as the New Year approaches.

The team is playing well, they're comfortably in the top-six and for the first time in a few years, and supporters seem genuinely optimistic that this could be a season of success for the Whites.

Still, one issue that has continued to follow the club around for the entirety of the season has been the news linking promising young left-back Charlie Taylor with a move away from the club.

He's been very good when given time on the pitch, but with a number of top sides reportedly monitoring his situation and with January fast approaching, it's time to potentially start looking for a replacement.

If a big-money offer does come in for Taylor, we think there is an ideal replacement playing in League Two who has the potential to be one of the best English left-backs around.

So with that in mind, here's 3 reasons why Leeds United should move for Plymouth Argyle starlet Ben Purrington...

His good work is being recognised

There's a slight tendency with young players to simply acknowledge the work they do based on word of mouth from loyal supporters, who see them as they next best thing.

But this is a man that has won a PFA Young player of the Month award this season and has picked up plenty of respect from players and managers from up and down the division.

Winning these sorts of awards is always a decent sign in football, especially at just 20-years-old.

He's helped Plymouth to the top of the division

At the time of writing, Plymouth sit level on points at the top of the division with Doncaster Rovers and Purrington's been a very big part of that good form indeed.

He's really stepped up in what has been the biggest season of his career and he's already played more this campaign than he did last time out. His quality is ever-improving and even at a big side like Plymouth, he's outshining some of his team-mates who have vast amounts of Football League experience.

He's every modern-day manager's dream

Despite having the tag of being a utility player, Purrington has very much developed into a true left-back as the term has gone on and that's where he's expected to stay for the rest of his career.

He has all the skills and ability to have a strong career whilst his balance between attacking and defending seems to be very good too.

The 20-year-old gets stuck in when there's a ball to be played and at 6ft 1", he's an ideal height too. The Plymouth man has great potential which Leeds United could really cash into, especially with Premier League aspirations of their own.
