Aston Villa are still firmly in the hunt for a place in the Premier League next season, although back-to-back defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers have left their automatic promotion hopes hanging by a thread, meaning that a place in the lottery of the play-offs looks much more likely.

You certainly wouldn't write Villa off just yet, however, and with a plethora of talent at boss Steve Bruce's disposal they could still have a massive say in who wins what come the end of the campaign.

A club the size of the Villains will surely already have some stellar targets in mind for the summer and the club will undoubtedly want to be in the best shape possible - regardless of which division they will play their football in.

Villa have been linked with a move for former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones, according to the Birmingham Mail, but there are certainly areas in the squad that require bolstering even more.

It might sound odd to suggest that the club should sign a player that already plays for the Villains, but turning the Scotsman's loan spell into a permanent deal should be the number one priority for the summer.

The 30-year-old has contributed eight goals and 12 assists to the Villa team this season and that sort of form is something that you cannot really put a value on. His days at West Ham United look numbered and Villa need to make sure they pounce before anyone else does.

The 27-year-old has been shining light in an otherwise disappointing campaign for West Bromwich Albion and their pending relegation will almost certainly mean that the central defender moves on during the summer.

John Terry has been brilliant this season for Villa but he is hardly a long-term option for the club at the heart of defence, making Dawson a shrewd acquisition should the club pursue his signature.
