Wolverhampton Wanderers are having a sensational transfer window this summer and are hoping to craft a side capable of promotion.

The Golden Boys were taken over by Fosun group last summer, making them one of the richest clubs in Europe, and their last two transfer windows have shown their spending power with players like Helder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro and Ruben Neves all coming through the doors for enormous fees.

The move for Neves, the Champions League's youngest ever captain, has bewildered the football world - Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus had all been linked with the 20-year-old, yet he has moved to Wolves.

The effect of Jorge Mendes, who appears to have total control over the club's transfers, is clearly being seen through their moves, although that hasn't stopped them from picking up the odd Englishman on a free transfer like Ryan Bennett and John Ruddy.

The club need a goalscorer though and a return for Benik Afobe appears to be on the cards. However, they should not return for the Bournemouth striker, and must instead move for Southampton striker Shane Long.

Long's chances at Southampton last season were extremely limited. He started just ten games and appeared 22 times from the bench.

The Republic of Ireland international is now behind Manolo Gabbiadini in the peck order at St Mary's, and is likely to find himself behind Charlie Austin when he returns from injury.

He would therefore benefit from a move to Wolves, where he would be paid decent money and be able to play at a level where he will play and score regularly.

Long is a ruthless goalscorer at Championship level and this deal could be the difference between promotion and another year in the second tier for Wolves.
