Nottingham Forest youngster Tyler Walker marked his first start in just over two years with a brace during a 4-0 rout over Queens Park Rangers last weekend, with the 21-year-old showing glimpses that he could become a permanent fixture in the Reds' side for years to come.

Walker, the son of former Forest legend Des, hadn't started for Forest since a 1-1 draw with Burnley back in October 2015 but some hard work and perseverance from the dedicated young man saw boss Mark Warburton reward his efforts with a place in his team last week.

After loan spells with Burton Albion, Stevenage and Port Vale since his last start for the club he has grown up at, Walker was naturally delighted to finally get the chance to re-emerge onto the first-team scene.

Talking to the Nottingham Post, Walker said: "We did some shape work on the Friday, the day before the QPR game and I was in the eleven that was going to be the team.

"I had to concentrate from that point, because all I could think about from that moment was playing in that particular game on the Saturday.

"You have to be ready when called upon and I was determined to ensure that I was. I really wanted to take my opportunity.

"In the end I should have really scored three goals, not just two but unfortunately it wasn't to be. People have been saying since that it was the best we have played this season and it was just great to be a part of it."

Forest take on Birmingham City at St. Andrews after the international break and after a couple of goals last time out you would fancy Walker to retain his place for the fixture.

The player himself would certainly relish more opportunities to play and he is keen to make up for lost time, following a sticky spell with fitness issues.

Walker continued: "It meant everything to me to score at the City Ground because of how last season went. It wasn't a great time for me and I just wanted it to be a success.

"Being picked in the starting line-up and having it go so well was amazing for me."

Forest's squad is one that oozes plenty of youthful exuberance and with Warburton keen to let the youngsters shine at the City Ground, Walker's next starting berth might not be quite so far away this time around.
