Nottingham Forest fell closer to the relegation zone on Saturday after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday, with six points separating the drop and Gary Brazil's team.

The hosts had a number of absentees for the visit of the Owls.

Michael Mancienne, Matt Mills and Chris Cohen all missed the match but defender Eric Lichaj did return to the starting line-up following a one-match suspension.

Sheffield Wednesday took the lead just short of the half hour mark when Almen Abdi hit home from outside the box.

Carlos Carvalhal's side doubled their advantage as forward Fernando Forestieri smashed past the goalkeeper after a corner, although the Italian received a booking for his celebration.

Nottingham Forest teenager Ben Brereton assisted team-mate Ben Osborn on the hour as Forest would make it a difficult ending for the away team.

But Gary Brazil's side were unable to sneak an equaliser and due to other results they fell down to 18th in the Championship table.

Here's how Forest supporters reacted on Twitter to the defeat.

Have you got a relegation battle on your hands? Was the appointment of Gary Brazil a good idea in the first place? Who needs to be dropped?
