Former Nottingham Forest striker Garry Birtles believes that Gary Brazil and Jack Lester deserve more credit for their work at the club, according to The Nottingham Post.

Gary Brazil and Jack Lester took control of first team affairs as caretaker managers earlier in the season when Philippe Montanier was sacked but they were replaced by Mark Warburton when a string of poor results saw Forest spiralling towards the relegation zone.

However, former Forest legend Garry Birtles - who won two European cup finals with the Reds in 1979 and 1980 - has said that Brazil and Lester have done a brilliant job with the club.

Birtles wrote:

"Hopefully Gary Brazil and Jack Lester will go back to working at Nottingham Forest's academy, after their time in charge of the first-team"

The 60-year-old thrice-capped former England international believes that the likes of Matty Cash, Ben Osborn, Ben Brereton and Joe Worrall settling in the first team is indicative of the fantastic job Brazil and Lester did before they took over the senior side.

He added:

"You've got to feel sorry for them with the way results have gone in the last few games, leading to Mark Warburton taking over as manager on Tuesday."
