Championship side Nottingham Forest are interested in a move for Olympiakos midfielder Andre Martins, reports Sport24.

The 27-year-old only moved to the Greek giants last summer following a long association with Sporting Lisbon, with whom he came up through the ranks to appear 103 times for, helping them to win the Taca de Portugal back in 2015.

However, he joined Olympiakos as a free agent last year and scored one goal and laid on three assists to help the club to a seventh successive Super League title, eventually finishing six points clear of PAOK at the summit.

Yet it appears that his short spell in Greece could be coming to an end this summer, as recent reports suggest that Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest are interested in a move for the two-time Portugal international this month.

The East Midlands giants have made a solid start to the new Championship season with two wins from their first three games, although they did lose their most recent encounter 2-1 at Barnsley on Tuesday.

And that result may have convinced boss Warburton that further reinforcements are needed at the City Ground to climb up the second tier table this term, and he may feel that Martins is the ideal man to help them in that quest.

But whether their interest becomes more concrete between now and August 31 very remains to be seen.

The Verdict: Nottingham Forest have already made quite the find from Olympiakos in the form of midfielder Andreas Buchalakis, who has made a sensational start to life at the City Ground.

And they could be about to go down that avenue again with interest in his former teammate Andre Martins, a Portugal international who played over 100 times for Sporting Lisbon, and then enjoyed a solid first season in Greece last time out.

The long, hard slog that is the Championship demands several options in every position, and there’s little doubt that bringing in Martins would bolster the squad at the East Midlands giants, and indeed put pressure on those currently in the first team.

Only time will tell though whether their interest becomes concrete in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
