Forest Green Rovers assistant manager Scott Lindsay is to leave the club by mutual consent. The Gloucestershire club yesterday announced publically that boss Mark Cooper's understudy will be moving on to pastures new.

Lindsay had formed a successful managerial partnership with Cooper as the pair led the Stroud based club from the Vanarama National League to last season's Sky Bet League Two play-offs, where they were narrowly beaten over two legs by a Tranmere Rovers side now in League One.

Scott Lindsay was a very popular man around the club, particularly with the playing staff, and was viewed as the link between them and manager Mark Cooper.

While no official reason was given, it's thought that Lindsay, based in Kent, wants to spend more time near his family, having to commute to Stroud for his job.

Former Gillingham and Dover Athletic player Lindsay has left on good terms, telling fgr.co.uk he'd "like to thank the chairman for the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club."

The former Lincoln City caretaker-manager also added "to go from non-league to the brink of League One (with Forest Green Rovers) is an achievement I'm very proud of."

Rovers' chairman Dale Vince thanked Lindsay "on behalf of the whole club" for his efforts and will now begin the task of finding a suitable replacement to work with Mark Cooper moving forward.

The Verdict

Scott Lindsay has done a superb job asissting manager Mark Cooper through some hugely successful times for the football club. Family life is important though, and getting the balance right is vital. Lindsay obviously feels this decision is best for him, and though Forest Green Rovers will miss the popular figure, he leaves the club in a much better position than when he arrived.
