According to the Nottingham Post, Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has said his side must learn to cut out the mistakes in their game, following their 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

A double from Diego Jota, with the winner coming just nine minutes from the full time whistle, did the damage for Warburton's side, after Mustapha Carayol's strike on 75 minutes had put Forest within touching distance of a draw.

The result saw Forest slip down to tenth, while it lifted Wolves into the top two, level on points with pace-setters Leeds United.

After the match, former Rangers boss Warburton gave his view on proceedings, "It frustrates all of us, because the players are working hard out there.

“It is even more frustrating when you have just got back into the game. You want to look after the football and know that your chance will come. Be clever and use the ball well," Warburton continued, bemoaning his side's lack of nous when they needed to see the game out.

Talking about Jota's winning goal, Warburton said, "We just gave the ball away in a dangerous area, when we had been in a really good position ourselves. As a team, we let ourselves down and we paid a price for that today. It is not a mental thing, it is about concentration. It is also a desire to do well.

"You have to maintain discipline defensively. So to come out and concede such a soft goal… we have to eradicate those mistakes. There is so much desire and determination in that dressing room – but that is what is costing us. We cannot keep making mistakes," he concluded.

The Verdict:

What Warburton is saying sounds like a tautology and we have all heard managers talk about the importance of keeping mistakes down to a minimum but he is trying to send a message to his players that they are not far away from being a good side at this level.

It is only really a lack of cuteness and maybe playing too much with the heart and not with the head that is undermining them at the moment, and Warburton is clearly keen to make that plain to his players.

It should also be said that Wolves are among the most ruthless attacking sides in the division and not every side in the league has the quality of Diego Jota in their ranks.
