Leeds United are pushing hard for automatic promotion this season as they currently sit three points clear of third-placed Fulham with 13 games left to play.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side came extremely close to glory last season but fell short in the last month of the season, missing out on the top two to Sheffield United, to then crash out of the play-offs in dramatic circumstances.

They have started and continued this season as they did last, beginning the campaign in scintillating form before suffering quite a major dip around the midway point of the campaign, both times coinciding with a suspension for Kalvin Phillips in midfield.

There is the consensus that the overall quality of the Championship has declined somewhat from the last term, but it is still as competitive as ever, with battles at both ends of the table looking like going right down to the wire.

With 59 points on the board after 33 games, the Whites have drawn eight and lost eight already, twice as many defeats as West Brom, who sit four points clear of them.

There have been a lot of tough matches for Leeds this season, with hard-fought wins over the Baggies and away to Barnsley, along with tough defeats to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, with sides such as Preston North End proving they can hold their own against the very top teams in the division.

The debate of who is the ‘best side in the league’ will always be up in the air, and even more so the best side that Leeds have faced, based on all of their qualities.

The question was put to Leeds fans in a Leeds United supporters group on Facebook on the topic of who the best team they have faced this season…

Who do you think the best team we’ve played this season is and why?

Really difficult to say - West Brom maybe?

Phil Reeves “Thought Preston in both games as well.”

Tone Powell “Charlton dug in and gave us a good game.”

Are these Leeds United facts true or false?

Brian Gunn “West Brom by a mile.”

Jamie Mcmillan “Preston for me, seemed for both games to have a good game plan which countered ours. Both games had Leeds getting very late equalisers.”

Richard Oswald “Forest, but Barnsley played very well too.”

John Borg “WBA at Elland Road.”

Robert Anderson “West Brom at ER were very good on the night, we were fortunate to get the 3 points.”

Julie Moorhouse “No one this season.”

Billy Allsop “Forest strong an organised.”

Boyd Denton “WBA at ER, we were lucky to win it to be fair. I thought they were poor at the Hawthorns and we should have snatched it.”

Phil Barrett “WBA at Elland Road were excellent, but I thought that we were the better team down at the Hawthorns.”
