Wigan Athletic fan @wafcryan2014 gives his thoughts on how his side are going to fair in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

What are your expectations for this season?

I predict we can finish in the top six and reach the play-offs, but maybe we can finish as high as the top two in this league, even though the Championship is always very competitive. Last season we played a lot of games if you include the Europa League but if we continue the form we showed from the latter stages of last season we can definitely challenge for automatic promotion.

What do you think of your summer business so far?

We have strengthened the team well this year with the signings of Oriol Riera, James Tavernier, Don Cowie, Aaron Taylor-Sinclair and Andrew Taylor. These players should play an important role at the club. The departures of Jean Beausejour and Jordi Gomez are a big loss for the club, but we have signed good replacements.

Who will be your star player this year?

Emmerson Boyce for me will be a star for us at the back. If we are going to do well in the league, then we need a solid defence and that will all be built around Boyce.

Who will be your breakout star this year?

Oriol Riera will be a breakthrough star for us this season, it could go either one way or the other, he could either score 20+ goals for us in the league or he could struggle to adapt to the English game. He scored 13 goals for Osasuna in the Spanish La Liga last season so I hope he can score some goals in the Championship.

What game are you looking forward to the most?

I am quite looking forward to facing some of the new teams that have come up from League One. We haven’t played the likes of Rotherham and Brentford for a long time so they will be interesting encounters.
