Football League World Fans Preview- Ipswich Town

Published

on

Ipswich Town fan Stephen Bailey gives his thoughts on how his side are going to fair in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

What are your expectations for this season?

Lots of Town fans expect at least play-offs every year I think, and every year we fail, it’s always the same line; ‘next year will be our year’. But in what will be Mick McCarthy’s second full season in charge we firmly believe that we could push for a top six place more than ever.

What do you think of your summer business so far?

Our transfer business this summer can only be described as shrewd. We’ve finally signed an out and out winger in Cameron Stewart, on a free, which is always a bonus. Alex Henshall, signed on a free from Man City, he is another winger who has impressed so far in pre-season and could well play a part for us. We also replaced Aaron Cresswell with Jonathan Parr. Another summer signing is Bartosz Bialkowski who is a decent ‘keeper acquisition. The fans are hoping for maybe another striker and a midfielder and we should be there.

Who will be your star player this year?

It could be David McGoldrick again, he scored 16 for us last season before getting injured, missing the last 10 games or so. He’s coming back from a serious knee injury and should get some minutes in the upcoming pre-season games, but he only started training again last week.

Who will be your breakout star this year?

Jack Marriott, if he can manage to secure a first team place. He has taken a bit longer to break through than first thought and has only made a couple of substitute appearances so far. But he certainly knows were the net is. He has scored loads for the youth teams and scored 12 goals in 22 games whilst on loan at Woking recently.

What game are you looking forward to the most?

Norwich City at Portman Road on August 23rd. The last time they came to our place it didn’t end well, so we are looking for a little bit of revenge, and giving them a proper welcome back to the Championship.
