Spencer Davies gives his thoughts on how he thinks Barnsley will perform in their first season back in Sky Bet League One.

What are your expectations for this season?

In an ideal world, I'd love to see us go straight back up, but we all know how challenging this division is. I'd say top 10 and just miss out on playoffs due to influential player sales and youth inexperience. That may not be a bad thing considering some of the money being spent in the Championship at the moment.

What do you think of your summer business so far?

Compared to previous summer's at the club, we've been a little too quiet for my liking. Think we made a mistake by letting Hassell and a couple of others go now. I still feel we didn't need to sign another keeper (Adam Davies) considering how tight finances are but the capture of Connor Hourihane shows that Wilson still has a good eye. Kane Hemmings was putting goals in for fun up in Scotland so he's worth try. I wish there was more to talk about, but thats it from us so far!

Wilson's gone on record saying he still wants another forward (Hoskins on trial at the moment), a right back (linked with Michael Smith at Bristol Rovers) and another midfielder but I suspect that we need either Martin Cranie, Chris O'Grady or Tom Kennedy to depart first. The wonders of salary cap management eh!

Who will be your star player this season?

If I'm honest, could be any number of players at the club, it's just a question if Wilson can motivate them and they stay fit. At a guess I'd say Jennings (if we keep him) will be outstanding at this level as will Hourihane. It's amusing to think that Hourihane, only been at the club a short while is probably our most experienced and senior midfielder!. If the likes of Reuben Noble-Lazarus & Paul Digby stay fit, they could be as equally important.

Who will be your breakout star this season?

Some of the academy prospects on show have the potential for this, George Smith looks a very capable left back (can see him displacing Kennedy) and Jack Cowgill for 17 already has the build for a center half looks good, not to mention James Bree. If anyones going to be a breakout star, it's going to come from our academy.

What game are you looking forward to most?

There's no singular game that I'm particularly looking forward to if i'm honest. I'm looking forward to going to some of the away grounds I've not been to before such as Fleetwood and Crawley. Then again..Rochdale does stand out just for the Keith Hill connection ;)...it's a guaranteed bet most of our fans will be excited about that game!
